Green Wood Week (13th-17th of May '26)
£750.00
A five-day immersive introduction to traditional green woodworking
Spend a full week with me in the Workshop Barn in Monmouthshire - learning the foundations of green woodworking, from splitting fresh logs to turning your own bowls on the pole lathe. This immersive course offers a taste of the year-long programme, but wrapped into a focused, hands-on week.
We’ll begin by preparing the components for a small bench or bedside table: selecting green wood, splitting it down, shaping it with axe and drawknife, and getting familiar with the essential hand tools. While those parts rest and dry, we’ll shift to the pole lathe, learning to turn plates, cups or bowls depending on your ability and using freshly cut timber from the surrounding woodland.
We'll cover aspects of sharpening and tuning the tools we'll use as well as safe carving techniques - so you'll be able to maintain and work with your own tools back home.
By the end of the week, we return to our bench components to refine the shapes, drill, fit, and assemble — giving you a complete, well-rounded experience of the full green woodworking process.
All tools and materials are provided, along with a good lunch each day. Throughout the week there’s plenty of time for conversation, shared meals, and the joy that comes from learning and making together.
A generous week of skill-building, wood shavings, and community — all in the rhythm of the barn and the woodland around it.
